What Is Restylane?
Restylane is a popular injectable dermal filler made of hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance that is naturally present in your skin and connective tissues. HA bonds with water molecules to create new skin volume.
Restylane is injected into moderate or harsh wrinkles like the nasolabial folds, smoker’s lines (perioral lip lines), parentheses lines, and marionette lines. It can also be used as an effective lip filler, augmenting and shaping thin lips.
The product improves skin volume, naturally filling in wrinkles. In addition to plumping up the area, Restylane boosts collagen production in the injected area, giving you even better results. And because the filler is biocompatible, Restylane has very low chance of rejection or allergic reaction.
Am I a Good Candidate?
Restylane is an ideal filler option for most candidates. If you’re looking for a way to smooth away age lines and restore facial volume without going under the knife, this may be the perfect treatment for you.
People who are breastfeeding or pregnant are not good candidates for Restylane injections. Patients must be age 18 or older to receive this injectable treatment. Patients who have experienced cold sores in the past should talk to Dr. Ganchi about this during their consultation.
The Treatment Process
Before your treatment session, it’s best to avoid taking any medications or supplements that could exacerbate post-treatment bruising. These include aspirin and NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) such as Advil or Motrin which interfere with clotting.
At the start of the Restylane treatment process, the injection sites may be marked as a guide for the injector. The injector will either use a micro-cannula or a needle to inject the solution in your skin. A local anesthetic called lidocaine may be mixed with the filler to numb the region, preventing discomfort.
After Your Restylane Treatment Session
Once your treatment session is complete, there will be no need for recovery time or downtime. You can quickly go back to your daily activities. There may be a bit of redness, bruising, and/or swelling, which will reduce shortly.
While it will take up to two weeks for the final results to be visible, there are a few things you must do for proper aftercare. Make sure you do not exert yourself physically for three days after the procedure.
It is also important that you avoid alcohol for a time, since consumption of alcohol can slow down the healing process. Also, avoid direct sunlight, because UV rays can degrade the HA in the filler, adversely affecting the final results.
Restylane’s Results
As soon as Restylane is injected, it spreads, smoothing away age lines. The filler then gradually integrates with the dermal tissue and the skin’s water molecules.
Because of this, with Restylane, you will see instant results as soon as the filler is injected in your skin, since the solution will add volume immediately. However, it can take up to two weeks for final results to be visible.
It is important to note that dermal fillers generally take a bit of time to set after the solution is injected. Since Restylane is made up of a malleable gel, it can be shaped as desired for a short time for the best possible results. This gives the injector time to make minor adjustments and corrections before the gel takes its lasting form.
Results can last from six months up to a year. After this time, patients can return for maintenance treatments.
Restylane Cost
The price of Restylane treatments will depend on the number of injections needed to achieve the patient’s cosmetic goals. Additionally, cost may be affected by the total number of treatment sessions.
